Nobel Peace laureates among 10 global leaders launch ‘I Am Peacekeeper’ in Dubai
Movement introduces 12 initiatives to advance dialogue and global unity
DUBAI witnessed a historic moment on Thursday as ten distinguished chief guests – including two Nobel Peace laureates – came together to launch the ‘I Am Peacekeeper Movement’.
The initiative, unveiled before an international gathering of policymakers, philanthropists, and changemakers, marked a rare show of unity in the pursuit of dialogue, understanding, and peace.
The landmark event was spearheaded by Dr Huzaifa Khorakiwala, Executive Director of the Wockhardt healthcare conglomerate and Founder of the movement. Joining him were Dr Asle Toje, Vice Chair of the Norwegian Nobel Committee, Professor Mohan Munasinghe, recipient of the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize, Ouided Bouchamaoui, Nobel Peace Laureate in 2015, and Dr Khalid Ghanem Al Ghaith, Secretary-General of the Higher Committee of Human Fraternity (HCHF), Abu Dhabi. Their collective presence underlined Dubai’s growing role as a crossroads of cultures and a stage for international solidarity.
Dr Khorakiwala emphasised that peace is a shared responsibility and not a distant aspiration. He unveiled 12 initiatives as part of the campaign’s roadmap, including mobilising nearly 2 million online peace advocates, expanding networks of directors and influencers worldwide, and launching the Billionaires for Peace Conclave in Dubai in February 2026.
Global vision
Praising the UAE’s leadership for creating a model of tolerance and coexistence, Dr Khorakiwala said peace must become a lived practice at every level of society. His call was anchored in seven universal values: gratitude, forgiveness, love, humility, giving, patience, and truth.
In addition to his role as a peace advocate, Dr Khorakiwala has blended humanitarian and healthcare innovation. As CEO of the Wockhardt Foundation, he pioneered the Mobile 1000 initiative, delivering free healthcare to over 40 million rural poor in India. He also introduced the Global Justice, Love & Peace Summit and authored the symbolic Peace Charter – A Love Letter to Humanity.
Nobel voices
Professor Munasinghe, Vice-Chair of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), stressed that peace-building requires more than conflict resolution. “Economic justice, environmental care, and social inclusion are pillars of lasting stability,” he said, noting that the ‘I Am Peacekeeper Movement’ is timely in empowering every citizen to contribute to peace.
Dr Khalid Ghanem Al Ghaith highlighted the UAE’s role in promoting fraternity and understanding. “The Higher Committee of Human Fraternity is proud to support initiatives that foster dialogue across borders. The ‘I Am Peacekeeper Movement’ embodies these values and creates a space for leaders and citizens alike to commit to peace as a way of life,” he added.
Dubai’s platform
The launch followed Dubai’s earlier milestone in April, when the emirate hosted 12 Nobel Laureates at a record-breaking Peace Summit at Expo City. Thursday’s event built on that legacy, further reinforcing the city’s position as a global convenor of voices for dialogue and harmony.
Attention now turns to the Billionaires for Peace Conclave 2026, set to take place in Dubai in February. The event will unite Nobel laureates with business leaders from the Forbes list, creating another international forum for justice, equity, and peace.
